SWHS Live Lounge

South Wigston High School have successfully hosted their first ever Live Lounge! SWHS students took the lead on a project where students and staff came together for a wonderful evening of creative performances enjoyed by family and friends.

The students and staff also took on front-of-house stewarding and behind-the-scenes crew roles (stage managing, light & sound desk control, photography) to perfect the ambience for the evening, making it an authentic live lounge experience!

A huge thanks is due to Mrs. Olner's Year 10 GCSE Music class who led the whole event, overseeing the auditions and mentoring to support performers in being ‘stage ready’! Some students had not performed live for a long time, and others had never performed live before, but thanks to the warmth and welcome extended to them by the Year 10 GCSE Music class they confidently stepped forward and shared their talents. All performers put in an incredible level of dedication - practice rooms were packed at break and lunch times with students putting in extra time to rehearse!

The admiration and support the students showed for each other was exemplary. The audience – comprising of family and friends of our performers and crew, SWHS students and staff – were immersed and even mesmerised by an eclectic mix of performances ranging from ballads to dance tracks. I noted a few tears being wiped away in the most poignant moments. The atmosphere was electric and SWHS Live Lounge concluded with a standing ovation from an appreciative audience! "Miss, when is the next Live Lounge?!", has been uttered many times since already; the buzz about it across the school afterwards has been spectacular and we can safely say that SWHS Live Lounge will be a hotly anticipated feature in our calendar.
